Nathalie Kalbach: Art Journaling In Depth

Learn how to add interest and an important spark to your art journal with textures and layers. Nathalie Kalbach shows how to create visual and actual texture using paint, gesso, and tools, plus techniques such as sgraffito and collage layering. Texture and layers are important design elements that are easy to produce, and they can communicate a variety of messages, emotions, thoughts, and perspectives. Let Nathalie show you how to go in depth!

CLASS 2: 11:00 AM- 12:30 PM

Jodi Ohl: Character Studies

Create a cast of whimsical critters that will be the star of any journal page! Let Jodi Ohl show you how to layer acrylics to create a simple design for the background, then learn how to use basic shapes to create the characters (our focus will be creating a bird, owl, and fish). Discover how details can make a difference by creating dramatic eyes and other features that will give your characters personality.

BREAK FOR LUNCH 12:30 PM-1:30 PM
Lunch voucher provided.

CLASS 3: 1:30 PM- 3:00 PM

Mary Beth Shaw: Your Brain on Stencils: Extreme Paint and Pattern

Discover how to use stencils and acrylic paint to create art journal pages that pop. Mary Beth will reveal the secrets of layering stencils to create foregrounds and backgrounds, and show you the magic of using stencils for integration. Learn how to layer colors, build good neutrals, and create lights and darks. And if your design has gone too far, she’ll demonstrate easy ways to save your journal spread without painting over the entire page.

CLASS 4: 3:30 PM- 5:00 PM

Gina Rossi Armfield: No Excuses Watercolor for Art Journaling

Learn fun and easy watercolor techniques that will add a colorful and expressive twist to your art journaling. In this class Gina will show you some simple pen and ink sketching and watercolor techniques that you can use in your studio or on the road. Then, create interesting, dynamic page backgrounds using watercolor washes and salt. You’ll also discover how to move paint and make shapes by blowing on watercolor paint.
